11pc growth in 1h of FY14-15: Car sales boom to 58,727 units from 52,879 units

KARACHI: Sales of vehicles up to 58,727 units from 52,879 units in the first half of this fiscal year, witnessing a growth of 11 percent.

While the sales dipped to 9,522 units in Dec 2014 against 10,343 units in Nov 2014.

During July-Dec period of 2014-15, the sales of 1,300cc and above increased to 30,987 units as compared to 25,365 units in the corresponding period of 2013-14.

Toyota Corolla sold 3,882 in Dec 2014 as against 4,202 units in Nov 2014, but its overall car sales swelled to 20,729 units during the first half of FY15 as compared to 12,875 units in the corresponding period of last year, showed a report released by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).

Honda Civic and Honda City sales fell to 3,026 and 5,552 units in July-Dec 2014-15 as compared to 4,247 and 5,742 units the same period last year. Suzuki Swift also struggled hard with sales of only 1,661 units during the period as compared to 2,414 units.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) did not roll out a single unit of Suzuki Liana in July-Dec 2014-15 but managed to sell only 19 units from its old stocks. Liana sales were just 87 units in July-Dec 2013-14.

In 1,000cc, Suzuki Cultus sales fell to 6,607 units from 7,255 units while Wagon R sales sold 1,705 units as its sales continued to show declining trend from August 2014.

There was no production of Hyundai Santro, but its assembler sold out 44 units in July-Dec 2014-15.

In 800cc and below, Suzuki Mehran sales dropped to 12,697 units compared to 13,701 units during July-Dec 2013-14. Suzuki Bolan sales slightly improved to 6,687 from 6,558 units.In LCVs, vans and jeeps, Toyota Fortuner sales increased to 361 units from 227 units while Sigma Defender sales plunged to 210 from 243 units.
