LOS ANGELES: Ferrari has confirmed the launching of track-only version of the LaFerrari built by the XX program. The LaFerrari XX already was spotted testing on Monza and now the car heavily camouflaged and using side-fixed rear wings was spotted testing on Fiorano.
Ahead of the Le Ferrari XX’s expected debut early next month in Abu Dhabi, a prototype has been spied undergoing testing at the company’s Fiorano test track. Inside, we know that the LaFerrari XX will be stripped out to save weight and come installed with ultra-lightweight race-spec bucket seats.
The Los Angeles Auto Show might be in full swing but there’s something interesting going on in Europe too as our spy photographers grabbed on camera a fully camouflaged prototype of the Le Ferrari XX. The track-only prancing horse appears to be wider than the road-going version and also has two fixed rear spoilers which we haven’t seen before. Other changes include additional front air intakes, dual exhaust system and a lower front spoiler lip.
Despite some recent rumors suggesting that the LaFerrari XX could use a turbocharged hybrid Formula One V6 derived power train, it will instead use the same power train as the road-going LaFerrari. However, it will be tuned to deliver around 1050 hp which is 100 hp more than the road car. It is believed that the extra power has been squeezed out of the naturally-aspirated V12 rather than the 161 hp electric motor.
To give you some idea of how fast the LaFerrari XX will be, it’s worth comparing it to the FXX. Based on the Ferrari Enzo, the Ferrari FXX Evoluzione delivers 850 hp and can reach 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and a theoretical top speed of 400 km/h! Add an extra 200 hp to that and the LaFerrari XX should really break the barriers of what we think cars available to private customers’ cars capable of.
Only around 30 cars will ever be built and each is estimated to cost £2M ($3.1M / €2.5M). All cars will be stored by Ferrari at Maranello where the company’s technical team will provide the necessary maintenance. A full reveal is expected to occur early December at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali event in Abu Dhabi.
