2200MW projects: K2, K3 nuclear plants to generate cheapest electricity, says Dar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, chairing a high-level meeting, reviewed the progress of work being carried out on the 2200-megawatt K2, K3 nuclear energy plants in Karachi.

Ishaq Dar said that the progress of the project had been actively monitored, adding that the Economic Affairs Division was also coordinating with the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) to complete the project on priority basis.

The finance minister said that after completion the project would be the cheapest source of energy in the country and “this is actually what we desire for the people of Pakistan.” The aforementioned energy projects will be a part of Pak-China Energy Corridor and will be jointly financed by China (EXIM Bank) and Pakistan in a ratio 82 and 18 percent respectively.

The Finance Minister directed that all concerned departments should actively participate in its completion and come up with fruitful suggestions for solving any technical issue. Economic Affairs Division Secretary Saleem briefed the meeting on the project.
