PARIS: The cigarettes were seized on Sunday, March 1, when as a result of routine profiling customs officers searched an Irish registered car. A total of 24,400 cigarettes with a retail value of €12,200 were found concealed in the roof of the car which had disembarked a ferry from France.
A 31 year old Irish resident was interviewed and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The cigarettes seized represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €9,610 assuming that they would have displaced the equivalent full tax paid quantity of cigarettes.
