3,000 MW also offered: Pakistan to purchase 1,000 MW electricity from Iran at Rs8-11/unit for 30 years

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is struggling hard to overcome prevailing energy crisis in the country and now the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has okayed the import of 1,000 MW electricity from neighbouring country Iran for 30 years at the rate of Rs8-11 per unit.

Iran has also offered 3,000 MW more electricity and provision of 70 percent financing for the transmission line to be laid down in Balochistan.

This was disclosed during the hearing of petition filed by the National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC) to seek approval of the project. The Authority has approved the project with the tariff hovering between Rs8-11 per unit.

NTDC Deputy General Manager Finance, during the hearing, said that an Iranian company, Tavanir, will install the power plant of 1300 MW at Zahadan and the electricity of 1000 MW will be purchased from Iran at the rate of Rs8-11 per unit which is to be transmitted through 500 kv line and will be injected in the national grid at Quetta.
