350,054 companies register for GST: Husni Hanadzlah

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 350,054 companies have registered for the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah announced here the other day.

He said as of Feb 28, the last day for GST registration, 345,376 companies had signed up.

Companies which refused to register for the GST, to be implemented on April 1, would be slapped with a RM15,000 fine and forced to register for the new tax regime.

In a statement, Ahmad Husni said the ministry offered training and hand-holding for businessmen to get prepare for the GST.

“Until end-February, 6,443 training programmes conducted by the government through the Royal Malaysian Customs Department were attended by 616,00 people.

“To help businessmen understand the law and to provide latest information on GST, a total of 330 hand-holding programmes were also organised by the department,” he added.
