ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting, presided over by Federal Finance Ishaq Dar, has okayed Rs125 billion worth projects of various sectors including education, communication, infrastructure and water supply.
The Ecnec approved rehabilitation and reconstruction of 652km of road network all over the country damaged in the 2010 floods at a cost of Rs49 billion. The meeting approved Sindh Barrages Improvement Project Phase-1 rehabilitation & modernization of Guddu Barrage at a total cost of Rs21.241 billion.
The committee also approved the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme under which 400,000 computers will be distributed in next 4 years among the brilliant and deserving students. The meeting also okayed Project for Extension of Water Resources for Faisalabad City-Phase-I (Revised PC-1) at a total cost of Rs6.020 billion.
Ecnec considered and approved widening and strengthening of National Highway N-70 (Rakhi Gajj-Bewata) 32.651 Kms (East West Road Improvement Project N-70) at the revised rationalized cost of Rs18.453 billion with the recommendation that no further revision in the scope and cost would be allowed.
The meeting approved Dualisation & Improvement of Sohawa-Chakwal road project at the rationalised cost of Rs4.789 billion. The project envisages construction of 66.405 km new additional 20 ft (2 lanes carriageway) along with provision of allied facilities and structures from Sohawa to Chakwal. Both roads would have 1 meter treated shoulders on either side bifurcated with 3 to 1.5 meter wide median in rural and urban areas respectively.
