ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC), during a seminar titled ‘The Wheat Travelling Seminar 2015′, has announced that its four new rust-resistant wheat varieties have showed producing desired results.
The seminar has been organised by PARC in collaboration with US Department of Agriculture (USDA), International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and International Center for Agriculture Research in the Dry Area (ICARDA) and other international partners.
The PARC representatives told the farmers of Mirpur Khas that the results showed 60 to 80 maunds per acre wheat production.
The agriculture scientists of PARC had released four new rust resistant wheat varieties including a bio-fortified variety having 50 percent Zinc contents with the intention of providing an opportunity to the farmers to choose from these varieties and produce healthy wheat to cater to increasing nutritious food demands.
The seminar is planned to travel through various agriculture research institutes and farmers’ fields at Hyderabad, Tandojam, Sakrand, Sukker, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, Kala Shah Kaku and Faisalabad.
