ALUVA: Shiva Yoga Nayaki Amma, 78, who arrived on a Sri Lankan Airlines flight, had concealed the gold inside her saree booked at the airport by Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department and seized 1.5 kg of gold at the Nedumbassery airport. Customs officials said that the gold was, in all probability, being smuggled to Sri Lanka from the Gulf.
The gold was in the form of chains, rings and disks.
The Hill Palace police arrested two men in separate incidents on charges of possessing and selling ganja. Sumesh Ayyappan, 30, and Yedu Krishnan, 20, both hailing from Chottanikkara, were arrested following a tip-off. Sumesh was arrested in the early hours of Monday, while he was trying to sell ganja to customers at the Tripunithura bus stand. Yedu Krishnan was taken into police custody during a routine vehicle inspection.
