GEORGETOWN: The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to inform the general public that the parking lot located at lot 235 Camp Street Georgetown, opposite the GRA Headquarters and adjacent to St. Margaret’s Primary School has been officially designated as GRA Customer Parking. This facility will become operational in February, 2015.
In the early days of the Authority’s consolidation into one convenient location, the Agency was plagued with several challenges. Most persistent of these was the continued and growing need for adequate parking facilities. Recognizing this need, the GRA has undertaken the herculean task of trying to create adequate facilities. Initial efforts included the creation of parking lots opposite the GRA (adjacent to St Margaret’s Primary) and on the corner of Camp and Quamina Street for staff and parking facilities equipped with security officers on Waterloo Street for taxpayers. These facilities did not receive the expected enthusiasm since the Camp Street location remained congested, so there was need to revisit the situation.
Therefore, in the interest of the two hundred (200) plus staff of the agency who use their personal motor vehicles to travel to and from work on a daily basis, the GRA took the initiative to secure a plot of land located at the Railway Embankment, Lamaha Street (between Camp and East Streets) to be constructed into an Employees Parking Lot. This location has been equipped with adequate security guards on foot patrol, huts, lights, bridges and a parameter fence in order to safeguard employees’ motor vehicles which would be parked at the said location during normal working hours.
Added to this, the GRA will be providing shuttling services to transport staff to and from the parking lot located at Railway Embankment, Lamaha Street on a daily basis. This service will commence in the morning and in the afternoon during the period.
As it relates to the taxpaying public, the GRA continues to put systems in place to make the payment of taxes as easy and convenient as possible for taxpayers. In this regard, taxpayers are continuously encouraged to use the alternative payment options available. These would include paying taxes through the commercial banks’ internet and Tele-Bank services, namely, Republic bank, Demerara bank, and GBTI. Taxpayers can also make payments through any Bill Express or GT&T’s Mobile Money. Paying taxes through these methods would significantly decrease the traffic congestion and long lines at the GRA Headquarters.
