MUSCAT: Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) conducting a symposium on February 2015, on the empowerment of women in country’s economy, an event organized by the Arabian Women’s Media Company.
The aim of the seminar, in which a large number of entrepreneurs from the Sultanate will participate, is to shed light on women in the economic field and focus on their contribution to the economic activity in the Sultanate in light of the Omani economy’s growing dependence on oil.
In addition, the seminar will support plans of Omani women to work freely, besides the establishment of business leadership to open areas in the private sector. It will also inform women of the funding available as well as opportunities for self-employment in the agricultural and fisheries sector, crafts and handicrafts.
The seminar will also discuss a number of papers provided on opportunities and initiatives of the government and economic empowerment in the private sector. It will discuss about women in the private sector in proportion to the number of job seekers.
The seminar will focus on ways to support small and medium-sized private enterprises, training and rehabilitation and its importance in self-employment.
Aziza Alhabsi, CEO of the Arabian Women’s Media Company, said that the symposium will include workshops on strategic planning for commercial projects and how to market them, especially those that are dominated by women in Oman.
Beside success stories of pioneering Omani women that will be presented at the symposium, focus will be given on how they can benefit from government and private facilities to develop their businesses.
Arabian Women’s Media Company is a private media organisation founded in 2012. It has adopted local organising educational activities based on human and informational local expertise, and aims to highlight the local social and economic issues.
