MUSCAT: An official of Oman finance ministry has said that country has planned to reduce agriculture and livestock imports to boost self-sufficiency, adding that Oman exported 126,000 tonnes of fish last year.
“We want to reduce imports (of agriculture and livestock products) from outside Oman and promote our local products,” said Hamed Bin Said Al Oufi, undersecretary of fisheries wealth at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
He made the remarks after inaugurating an exhibition of Omani products in the Baushar branch of Lulu Hypermarket on Tuesday, which was organised in cooperation with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) to commemorate Industry Day observed on February 9.
Similar exhibitions will be held at all other branches of Lulu Hypermarket in line with other events organised by the government to mark the occasion, observed in commemoration of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said’s visit to Al Rusayl Industrial Estate on February 9, 1991.
