ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammad Asif while presiding as a chief guest at stakeholders’ consultative conference on “Coal and R-LNG Based Power Generation Projects” has said that the government is taking steps to develop power generation projects based on coal and re-gasified liquefied natural gas (R-LNG) that have sparked the interest of international as well as local investors.
The conference was organised with the objective to seek views from the stakeholders regarding challenges being encountered by them in developing independent power producers (IPPs) and suggestions to improve the present power policy.
Asif said coping with circular debt and slow recovery of dues by Discos were the priority areas of the government.
He told the participants that government is actively working on transmission lines policy to attract investors.
“The investors and the public will get tangible relief in the power sector by end of this year,” he said.
On the occasion, managing director Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) also highlighted IPPs of 36,000MW through R-LNG, for which advertisements will soon be placed in national and international print media.
“Besides this, R-LNG is also being arranged for existing thermal IPPs to cut generation cost and achieve higher efficiency,” he added.
