Bangladesh, India decide to shares info on smuggling of narcotics, goods

DHAKKA: Bangladesh Customs officials and India have decided to share real time information on smuggling of narcotics, goods and psychotropic drugs.

In their 10th Joint Group of Customs (JGC) meeting in New Delhi, they also took several decisions “to remove administrative complexities and operational barriers for quicker passage of goods through the ports”.

National Board of Revenue Member Md Farid Uddin led the Bangladesh delegation while Director General of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence Najib Shah led the Indian side in the meeting.

Bangladesh foreign ministry said both sides had “constructive discussions on further promotion and facilitation of trade between the two countries”.

The meeting agreed to improve infrastructural facilities including installation of testing and warehouse facilities in all 16 land ports along the borders.

They also decided that the standards organisation of India and Bangladesh would meet soon to sort out unresolved standardidation issues between the countries.
