India establishes customs commissionerate at Kakinda port

NEW DELHI: Kakinada and Krishnapatnam ports, Commissioner of customs Sk. Rahman said that the customs commissionerate is fully geared up to serve the exporters and importers round-the-clock and  newly created commissionerate was fully equipped with manpower and infrastructure.

Mr. Rahman, on his interaction with the exporters and customs brokers at an open house organised by the Cocanada Chamber of Commerce here, said that he was very happy to be the first Commissioner of the newly formed commissionerate.

“The government allocated 334 employees to the commisionerate and most of them have already joined the duties. The two custom houses at Kakinada and Krishnapatnam are being monitored by the commissionerate and our men are on duty round the clock to attend the ships,” he said.

Stating that both the Central and the State governments were according top priority to the development of ports, Mr. Rahman said that ‘Sagara Mala’ was the new scheme announced by the Central government to improve infrastructure and facilities in the ports all over the country. “The State government has already announced its plans to develop the ports and industrial corridors,” he said. Explaining in detail about the ‘Authorised Economic Operator’ project, Mr. Rahman said that the AEOs could enjoy certain privileges, compared to the others.
