LONDON: As carbon emissions throughout the globe have become a serious issue round the globe, many power plants as well as other industrial facilities should cut down their rate of carbon pollution by using industrial ‘scrubbers.’ Researchers with Harvard University and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have recently developed a novel emissions-scrubbing system that consumes a very little power and makes use of more environmentally-friendly components.

A report was published in the journal Nature Communications that says that the new system would utilize microcapsules that are made of liquid sorbents encased in a highly permeable polymer shells.

“Microcapsules have been used in a variety of applications— for example, in pharmaceuticals, food flavoring, cosmetics, and agriculture–for controlled delivery and release, but this is one of the first demonstrations of this approach for controlled capture,” said Jennifer A. Lewis, who is a professor of biologically-inspired engineering at Harvard.
