NEW DELHI: Renault plans to launch Captur SUV segment in the Indian car market. It was speculated that Renault is working on an all-new compact SUV, which will be positioned below the Duster SUV.

The Renault Captur is already available in select international markets, and has been receiving positive response from buyers. The current model measures 4.1 meters in length; however, the India-spec model will be less than 4 metres in length. The company is expected to chop the rear end to keep its length under 4 metre. However, Renault will only bring the next generation Captur in our market, which is rumoured to be based on CMF (Common Module Family) platform.

The outgoing model is based on the B-platform (V platform in India) that also underpins the Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse hatchback. The Captur is available in three engine options- 0.9-litre 3-cylinder, 1.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine. The India-spec model is expected to get the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel mills. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels of the SUV via manual or automatic transmissions.

The Renault Captur SUV is expected to be launched in the Indian car market in 2017-18. The company is planning to launch the Lodgy MPV by March and the XBA A-entry level hatchback by this year’s festive season.
