UK stocks end weaker, FTSE 100 skids 0.12%

LONDON: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Transportation and Mining sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.12%.

The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Marks & Spencer Group (LONDON: MKS), which rose 4.88% or 23.20 points to trade at 498.70 at the close. Meanwhile, easy Jet Plc (LONDON: EZJ) added 3.76% or 63.00 points to end at 1738.00 and Tesco (LONDON: TSCO) was up 3.62% or 8.45 points to 241.85 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Royal Mail (LONDON: RMG), which fell 4.91% or 22.30 points to trade at 432.20 at the close. Fresnillo Plc (LONDON: FRES) declined 4.07% or 36.50 points to end at 859.50 and Randgold Resources (LONDON: RRS) was down 3.51% or 190.00 points to 5225.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1165 to 949 and 334 ended unchanged.

Gold for April delivery was down 0.40% or 5.00 to $1236.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March fell 3.75% or 1.98 to hit $50.88 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 1.88% or 1.11 to trade at $58.22 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.34% to 1.5269, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.7416.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 94.72.
