Excise issues final notices for payment of luxury tax to 97 building owners

SIALKOT: Recovery of luxury tax has become a big challenge for the Excise and Taxation Department in Gujranwala Region.

According to the details, Excise and Taxation department had identified as many as 97 luxury buildings as taxable, out of which 19 buildings are in Sialkot district, 64 in Gujranwala and two buildings are in Mandi Bahaud Din district, which come under the luxury tax net.

Excise had issued notices to owners of these buildings to pay their luxury tax. But, seven months have passed and only five owners of such buildings have yet deposited their luxury tax. Due to this critical situation, it has become very hard for the department to achieve its recovery target fixed in this regard. According to the Director Excise Gujranwala Rao Shakil ur Rehman, the department has now sent the final notices to the owners of these luxury buildings asking them to ensure the early payment of their luxury taxes. The department has also issued the warning that these luxury buildings would soon be sealed if the said tax was not paid soon, he added.
