ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) aims to approve Rs 3.21 per unit reduction in power tariff under the head monthly fuel price adjustment.
Central Purchasing Power Agency (CPPA) last month requested NEPRA to reduce the electricity price by Rs 3.21 per unit because of reduction in prices of furnace oil and high-speed diesel. The meeting that was to be held on January 29, 2015 to discuss the request of the CPPA was postponed on the instruction of Ministry of Finance.
The Ministry of Finance was planning to grab Rs 111 billion from consumers to cope with the circular debt and settlement the loan of power sectors towards banks.
After the cut in electricity prices, consumers will get the relief of Rs 210 billion. However, this will be not applicable on KESC and the household consumers of 50 unit per month.
