The update has been rolled out OTA (over the air). Canvas Xpress users can follow the simple process to get the updates on their devices. Users will get an update notification on their handset when they connect it to the internet and following that they can directly upgrade to the latest OS. Users can also check manually for the upgrade by going to the Settings menu, tapping on ‘about phone’ and then on ‘software update.’

Micromax had launched Canvas Xpress at Rs 6,999, in December. It sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480x854p) IPS display.

Powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MTK6582V/X quad core processor and 1GB RAM, the phone comes with 8GB internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports cards of up to 32GB. The Canvas Xpress features a 5MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 0.3MP front-facing camera. The dual sim smartphone supports 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity options.

It’s not clear which other Canvas series phones will be upgraded to Lollipop. Micromax has also not announced a definite timeframe for the roll out.

The move comes soon after other players announced Lollipop update for their budget devices or unveiled new devices.

Recently, domestic brand Intex had also announced an Android Lollipop-powered phone, Intex Aqua Star L.

Earlier this month, Google India’s Twitter account had also tweeted that Android One users in India will be getting the Lollipop update in the next few weeks.

Although Android Lollipop was the most ambitious release of the mobile operating system, it is still not on enough devices. According to data released by Google, the Lollipop build powered just 1.6% of Android devices. Google tracked the data on Android devices for the week ending on February 2, 2015 while computing the statistics. It does not include the figures for Android versions that are on less than 0.1% of the devices tracked.
