Battlefield Hardline to release on March 20, includes beta system, developers hope to sound big in market

CANBERRA: For those who have took part in the recent “Battlefield Hardline” beta, Electronic Arts is giving an additional bonus. Videogamer.com spotted the publisher’s announcement, stating that it will be giving away a free Gold Battlepack for each of the beta players. The freebie will come alongside the title when the full game is released on Mar. 20.

“Recently, EA invited a bunch of YouTubers to play ‘Hardline’ in its San Francisco office, and the embargo is set to be lifted at 12 noon ET today,” PlayStationLifestyle.net said yesterday. “One of the YouTubers invited was XFactor, who tweeted an image of in-game characters wearing dinosaur masks.”

Unfortunately, the tweet was deleted as the revelation did not follow the embargo timeframe, but it appeared to confirm the dino rumors.

However, a video showing “players taking down dinosaurs in the game” emerged, whipping “Battlefield” fans into a frenzy over the unexpected addition. It must be noted, though, that the players only wore dinosaur masks during the beta play session.

“So, no, there are still no true dinosaurs in ‘Battlefield,’ at least as far as we know,” GameRant clarified. “However, after waiting many long years, we’re sure it feels at least a little bit rewarding to gun down a dino-head-toting player in ‘Hardline,’ even if it is a long way from players’ true desires.”

Last year, when asked about the addition of dinosaurs in the game, creative director Ian Milham told Metro that the odd feature is something that is for DICE to deal with.

When pressed to clarify whether they can’t really do dinosaurs, Ian responded with this: “Well, it’d be pretty cheeky for us to try.”

However, he didn’t cancel out the possibility altogether, saying that there’s a lot of options that the characters in the games could use.

With all these dinosaur rumors running rife, plus the screenshot and video to back them up, is Visceral Games feeling cheeky enough to add something Jurassic into “Hardline”?

Meanwhile, GameRant put forward a suggestion about allowing players “to mod the current round of Battlefield games – at least then players could build the dinosaur mode themselves.”

However, an EA honcho reportedly said that a mod function would be “too difficult” to pull off with the current Frostbite engine used.
