Dublin airport traffic up 14% in January to touch 1.5 million mark

DUBLIN: Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) have published numbers showing that January passenger traffic was up across all key destinations on the same month last year.

Dublin Airport last month was 14 per cent ahead of January last year at almost 1.5 million, according to figures released by the State company that manages the gateway.

Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe grew by 18 per cent with almost 690,000 passengers travelling there during the month.

UK traffic was up almost 10 per cent as nearly 591,000 passengers travelled on those routes in January. More than 102,000 people travelled to the US and Canada in January, 5 per cent more than during the same month in 2014.

International traffic out of Dublin, bound mainly for the Middle East and North Africa, was up 39 per cent at 69,000.

Meanwhile, an update from Aiports Council International indicates that the capital’s hub outperformed its European peers last year. Passenger numbers at EU airports increased by 4.9 per cent. Dublin’s business expanded by 8 per cent to 21.7 million.
