Rs200 billion trees could be cut: Owners back Imran’s call to save timber forests

PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Awami Forestry Ittehad (Safi) has announced to back Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s call against timber mafia and said that the forest owners will extend full cooperation to the government to save forests.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has kicked off the Billion Tree Tsunami campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and announced a Jehad against the Timber Mafia. He said the timber mafia was planning to cut timber of another Rs200 billion but the PTI government took immediate notice and stopped the illegal practice.

Safi President Riaz Mohammad and General Secretary Jamshid Khan in a statement asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to devise an effective plan for protection of the forests to save the environment.

They said that forests could not be safeguarded only through establishment of a force or use of bullets, but the government should take the forest owners into confidence to overcome the issues.
