ISLAMABAD: The government has claimed to end loadshedding by 2017 and rejecting National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (Nepra) statement that loadshedding across the country is unlikely to end by year 2020.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry Water & Power, the target has been given by the prime minister to the ministry and will be achieved in time.

The spokesperson for the Ministry Water & Power said the report attributed to Nepra about loadshedding is baseless.

The State of Industry report released by the Nepra revealed on Monday that the country will face a shortfall of 1200 megawatts in 2020, an estimate that has come in spite of repeated claims by the government of successfully countering the power shortage by the end of the decade.
