JAKARTA: The West Tanjung Jabung Customs and Excise Office in Jambi has impounded a freighter from Malaysia, Sinar Rizki, believed carrying illegal cargo not listed in the vessel’s manifest.
According to authorities, the vessel was carrying cargo without official documents. It was laden with soya beans, prayer papers and gunny sacks.
“We have been berthing here for two days after sailing from Malaysia and we are still waiting for orders to unload,” said boat crew member Herman here the other day.
Kualatungkal Customs and Excise Office head Taufan Bayuaji confirmed that the boat was seized. The boat is still berthing at the Gudang Alo harbor in Kualatungkal.
“We sealed the vessel pending customs documents currently being arranged by the owner. The boat is not being seized,” said Taufan.
Based on requirement, said Taufan, each vessel that is loading and unloading must be equipped with the right permit, so without a permit the vessel could not unload its cargo.
“The boat owner is currently completing customs papers,” said Taufan.
