KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement-West Collector Muhammad Saleem has made it clear that legal demands of the employees’ unions and its workers will be accepted.
Talking to Customs Today at his office, Collector Muhammad Saleem said that the authorities in the Common Pool Funds (CPF) meeting had assured the employees including the members of appraisers’, examiners’ and Class-IV employees’ unions that their legal demands would be accepted at all forums.
“We will take every legal step in order to facilitate the lower-grade employees while remaining in the ambit of rules and laws,” he added.
Commenting on the issue of in-house hiring, Appraisement-West Collector Muhammad Saleem said that the matter would be sent to the authorities of the Central CPF Committee for redressal.
Collector Saleem, who is also the chairman of the Common Pool Funds Committee, said that the committee will write to the Central CPF regarding releasing funds for medical allowance of the workers.
It is pertinent to mention here that the employees’ unions during the CPF meeting had demanded the CPF chairman to ensure effective steps in order to implement the due promotion of customs officials, to issue in-house hiring allowance for the officials and to make arrangements in order to verify the “service books” of the employees from SR Cell, DDO and CAO, so that the officials could verify those service books from the AGPR.
They also demanded the chairman to increase the amount of reward money announced by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) every year for achieving revenue targets and to increase the manpower of customs officials at terminals and ports in order to streamline the clearance process.
