LAHORE: Pakistan Customs has seized non-customs paid goods worth Rs 15,735 million during the last three years, sources said on Monday.
Sources said the smuggled goods worth Rs 5,328.83 million were recovered in 2012-13; Rs 4,904.75 million in 2011-12 and Rs5,501.89 million in 2010-11, adding that the major source of smuggling of goods into Pakistan is through long porous border with Afghanistan. However, there is no mechanism to measure the real quantum of smuggling.
Sources informed that in order to curb smuggling, Pakistan Customs has reinvigorated its enforcement measures which included intelligence sharing, launching of joint operations and provision of support and facilitation to the Customs authorities by the law enforcement agencies.
