SYDNEY: Ford has unveiled price and features of its all-new Mondeo range for Australia ahead of its May showroom debut.
The new range will kick off from $32,790 for the hatch and top out at $49,340 for the wagon (before on-road costs), with a range of trim grades and engines in between.
By comparison, Toyota’s sedan-only Camry range begins at $30,490, while the Mazda6 sedan and wagon family starts from $32,540.
Powertrains in both the liftback-hatch and wagon bodies will include 2.0 litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol and 2.0 litre TDCi diesel engines.
Three trim grades will be offered across both body styles, including the familiar Ambiente, Trend and Titanium models.
Powering entry models on the petrol front is a 149kW/345Nm 2.0 litre turbocharged engine, while the mid- and top-spec Trend and Titanium models boost output from the same engine to 177kW.
All diesel models are driven by a 132kW/400Nm 2.0 litre engine.
All three engines, petrol and diesel, are matched to six-speed automatic transmissions: SelectShift in petrol models and PowerShift in diesel models. All variants are front-wheel-drive.
Ford late last year trumpeted the fuel efficiency of its new diesel Mondeo, its 5.1 to 5.3 l/100km figures comparing favourably to the Mazda6 diesel (5.4 l/100km) and the petrol-electric Camry Hybrid (5.2 l/100km).
Fuel consumption for the petrol models falls between 8.2 and 8.5 l/100km, depending on the trim grade and body style.
The new Mondeo also debuts with Ford’s new integral link rear suspension setup, along with Electric Power Assisted Steering.
FEATURES
Highlights in the Mondeo range will include Ford’s SYNC2 infotainment system with an eight-inch touch display, LED daytime lights and LED tail lamps, heated exterior mirrors, dual-zone climate control and digital radio.
Other standout technologies include Emergency Assistance, Adaptive Cruise Control, adaptive LED headlamps and a Wi-Fi hotspot, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and MyKey.
The Mondeo will also be the first Ford in Australia to feature nine airbags, including inflatable rear seat belts, as standard across the range
