NEW YORK: US Customs and Border Protection officers said two Phoenix residents in a recreational vehicle attempted to bring 1,000 pounds of marijuana into the United Stated.
According to authorities, a 57-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, attempted to cross the border at the Lukeville Port of Entry with more than 51 packages of marijuana stored in compartments created in their standard RV.
Teresa Small, a spokeswoman for Customs and Border Protection, said officers initially questioning the pair opted to investigate further and discovered the marijuana worth close to $510,000.
“What’s pretty amazing is they’re looking for a needle in a hay stack when you think about how many people they talk to,” Small said. “They found a large amount of marijuana and prevented it from making it to our streets.”
