In a statement issued by the Labour Party, it said that the price of petrol increased by 2c (€1.39) while diesel increased by 1c (€1.28). It said that in the previous four weeks, petrol increased by 7c and diesel went up by 9c.

“At the same time, petrol and diesel prices in Malta decreased by 7c.”

Labour said petrol prices in Belgium spiked by 15c while diesel went up by 16c. Prices in Bulgaria saw a hefty increase of 12c while prices in Italy, Holland, Denmark and Portugal increased by 11c. France and Germany saw a 10c increase.

Like Malta, prices in Slovenia went down.

“Petrol prices in Malta are cheaper than in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Holland, Finland and Denmark. Yet, the Opposition keeps insisting that fuel prices in Malta are higher than Europe’s,” PL said, adding that the average price of petrol in the Eurozone was €1.40.
