TEXAS: US Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector arrested men with ties to the 18th Street gang and the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang as they attempted to enter the United States illegally.
Agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station apprehended a man, who is a Mexican national, near Roma. The man was transported to the station for processing, during which time he admitted to being a member of the 18th Street gang.
The Kingsville Border Patrol Station apprehended a man from El Salvador national near Sarita, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) street gang. The men will be referred to the Rio Grande Valley Sector Prosecutions Unit.
Rio Grande Valley Sector agents have apprehended 195 gang members since the beginning of the fiscal year, Oct. 1, 2014.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
