Talking to the media persons soon after the incident, Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Hafiz Muhammad Ali claimed that no important documents were burnt in the fire.

According to eyewitnesses, a considerable number of documents and records on the affected floors were destroyed by the fire. However, final assessment could only be made after a through inquiry into the incident which may take a couple of days more.

The fire was intense and spread quickly, causing significant material loss to the building which is situated in front of the New Sindh Secretariat building.

The fire was later brought under control due to the timely arrival of fire engines. No injuries or casualties were registered as staff attendance was thin.
