Rs 200m released for 38-km Lyari Expressway project, 14,811 families to get a plot, Rs50,000 each

KARACHI: For Lyari Expressway Project which spreads over 464 acres with a total length of 38 kilometres, the government has released Rs 200 million, a meeting was told.

The number of families living on both banks of the Lyari River in the area is 14,811 while each affected family unit would get 80 square yards residential plot and Rs50,000 as facilitation money.

The meeting held in Karachi with Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui in the chair reviewed measures for early implementation of the project. Siddiqui asked the officials concerned to expedite the pace of work and also ensure absolute compliance of the approved plan.

Owing to dearth of funds and resettlement of slums on the project route, construction of one portion of the mega Lyari Expressway project has been halted. It is a joint project of the federal and provincial governments and spread over 464 acres with a total length of 38 kilometres.
