LAHORE: The Excise and Taxation Department has initiated a massive crackdown on tax defaulters, especially property tax defaulters.

Punjab Excise and Taxation Additional Director Masoodul Haq while talking to Customs Today said that the department was taking special interest in recovery of property tax, as it was the second largest source of revenue for the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department.

He added that a special instruction has been sent to the regional officers to improve their recoveries and achieve a minimum of 80 percent target within this month.

Excise teams will seal the defaulter properties from now on and no relaxation will be given to the defaulters.

Masood said that motor vehicle levy was the largest source of income for the department, but motor branches of Punjab were facing revenue shortfall.

To overcome the deficit, special teams are working on roads to chase defaulter and unregistered vehicles on the directives of Excise Secretary Ali Tahir.

Excise teams are seizing documents of token tax defaulter vehicles, which will ultimately help overcome the shortfall.

The crackdown is likely to continue on defaulters of professional tax, education cess, entertainment tax, property tax and motor vehicle tax.
