HARROW: The UK is preparing for a solar eclipse later this monthThose viewing the spectacular next week are being urged to take safety precautions.
The solar eclipse next Friday morning (March 20) will be visible from most of northern Europe.
Although people watching from England will not see a total solar eclipse, between 85 and 90 per cent of the Sun will be covered, making it the most spectacular since 1999.
A solar eclipse can happen at New Moon, when the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun. It is a relatively rare phenomenon because of the nature of the Moon’s orbit around the Earth.
The partial eclipse will begin over East Yorkshire on Friday, March 20, at 8.28am, when the Moon will appear to touch the edge of the Sun.
