KARACHI: The Collectorate of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) did not start work despite clear orders from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) with a view to make the department functional at the top level.

According to details, the authorities concerned of the FBR decided last year to make the Collectorate of IPR functional in order to scrutinise the authenticity of imported brands.

The FBR in its initial move appointed Rubina Ather as the IPR collector, but later on, the government authorities appointed her as additional secretary for finance.

Afterwards, the FBR appointed Aamir Rasheed Shaikh as collector and also directed to set up a proper collectorate with the name of Collectorate of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) at the 11th Floor of the Customs House Karachi.

After a lapse of several months, the collectorate is still not functioning, while no proper arrangements have been made in order to make it operational.
