SINGAPORE: Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 2 smartphone in Singapore. The phone has been priced at S$169 and will be available in White colour. The first flash sale will happen on March 17 at 12 noon at the company website.

Not much is different between the Redmi 2 and the smartphone it is replacing in the country – Redmi 1S. The Redmi 2 comes with the same 4.7-inch 1280x720p HD IPS display, 8MP f2.2 rear camera with LED flash, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and microSD card slot, which were also present in its predecessor.

The real change is on the processor, battery and secondary camera front, all of which have been slightly improved to Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor, 2200 mAh battery and 2MP front shooter in the new phone. Other specifications of the Redmi 2 include 4G LTE support, dual-SIM support and USB OTG.

The smartphone will join the company’s Mi Pad tablet and Redmi Note 4G smartphone in the Singapore market.

There is no word on whether Xiaomi will ever introduce the enhanced version of Redmi 2 in the country, which includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and is currently on sale in China.
