TOKYO: Sony declared that it will stop distributing content for PlayStation mobile after July 15.

Any purchased content will still be accessible to users through the site through Sept. 10. Users will have until then to re-download content to their PSP Vita or PlayStation certified Android devices.

If users want to access their content after the due date, they will have to activate their device through an activation process explained in the PlayStation forums.

PlayStation Mobile was launched in 2012 to offer games in both the Android mobile market and the PS Vita handheld device. The mobile service was then discontinued in August 2014. Now, the entire service is being shuttered.

The news of Sony shutting down PlayStation Mobile comes a few days after it announced that it would cut 1,000 jobs at its mobile phone unit in Sweden. Sony had also announced in February that it would lay off 2,100 employees in its mobile division.
