TOKYO: Suzuki has launched a sporty model, dubbed the Alto Turbo RS. Previewed as a “concept” at the start of this year at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the Suzuki Alto Turbo RS will now be sold as a production car to Japanese customers at a price equivalent to AUD$13,880.
The Alto Turbo RS is powered by a 47kW 660cc turbocharged petrol inline three. Peak torque is a very modest 98Nm, and power goes to the front wheels via a five-speed automated manual gearbox with paddle shifters.
Suzuki makes no claim of 0-100km/h times, but rest assured that the Alto Turbo RS will be slow. At least it’s easy on the juice, needing just 3.9 l/100km on the combined cycle.
Nevertheless, handling performance has been upped by the addition of extra body bracing (which Suzuki says boosts chassis rigidity by 5 percent), a tauter suspension tune, sports seats, 15-inch alloys and stronger brakes.
