LONDON: Google has confirmed Android 5.1 Lollipop which is accessible as RSD and works the same way that Odin does for Samsung devices.

After debuting on Android One devices, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update now looks all set to arrive for the Google Nexus range. The 5.1 update is the most significant Lollipop update yet and is expected to bring a number of improvements and some new features as well. In this post, we will discuss all the new changes that this update is expected to bring and when you can expect to see the Android 5.1 Lollipop update become available for your device.

Motorola is reportedly working on a new build (LMY47E) of Android 5.1 Lollipop stock firmware for Nexus 6, as suggested by a recent tweet from the company.

Although Google had recently rolled out the factory images as well as the OTA update for the previous build of Android 5.1 (aka LMY47D), there seems to be a newer build of Android 5.1 in the works for Verizon-based devices.

The term “VRZ” in the leaked firmware’s title reaffirms that the new build LMY47E is specifically meant for the Nexus 6 Verizon model, while the mobile carrier is yet to announce the release or confirm the existence of this new firmware.

According to Android Police, the new VRZ stock firmware seems to hold some historical significance, as past builds such as GRI54 (Nexus S), GTJ61 (Nexus S), IMM30B (Galaxy Nexus), JRO03S (Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi), JOP40F (Nexus 10), JDQ39B (Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi/LTE), and JDQ39E (Nexus 4) were preinstalled firmware being shipped with newer Nexus devices, while they were never released for older devices via OTA or factory images.

As a word of caution, users are advised to be careful while using the RSD Lite tool as one wrong move could inadvertently damage your device.

Though details are sparse about the LMY47E, it is ascertained that this build features a newer radio without any major feature benefits over the previous build LMY47D.

Nevertheless, interested users can go ahead and try flashing the new Android 5.1 LMY47E stock firmware by heading over to the XDA Developers forum.
