President for reaping great benefits of GSP Plus status

LAHORE: President Mamnoon Hussain underlined the need for diversification of products and value addition, especially in textile industry to reap maximum benefits of the GSP Plus status, the EU has granted to Pakistan.

The President made the remarks during a presentation given by the Commerce Ministry on EU’s Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) Scheme. Minister of State for Commerce and Textile Industry Eng Khurram Dastgir Khan, Federal Commerce Secretary Qasim M Niaz, Textile Industry Secretary Mrs Rukhsana Shah and Nadeem Hassan Asif were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, the Commerce and Textile Ministry gave a detailed presentation to the President on GSP Plus Scheme, challenges and opportunities for the economy and various steps being taken to seize this opportunity.

Speaking on the occasion, President Mamnoon Hussain said that GSP Plus Scheme not only envisaged manifold increase in Pakistan’s exports to the EU markets but also would strengthen national economy through greater trade which would resulted in the generation of more employment opportunities.

He advised the Commerce Ministry to take all possible steps to create awareness among the business community and exporters across the country to enable them to grab this great opportunity.

The President also sought proactive role all the stakeholders both from the public and private sectors to avail this huge opportunity of trade access to and secure greater place for Pakistani products and goods in the EU markets.
