Dubai customs’ readiness increase 50% at DXB Terminal 2

DUBAI: Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, concise on Dubai customs’ readiness increased by 50 percent at DXB Terminal 2, after the recent expansions were completed at the terminal.

Sulayem visited to Dubai Customs’ Passenger Operations Department at Dubai International Airport-Terminal 2, with the goal of getting acquainted with DC in-house innovations for facilitating Customs formalities for passengers.

During his visit to the airport, H.E. Bin Sulayem was briefed on DC’s improvement and development procedures at the terminal, including passengers’ handbag inspection devices, going up from two to five devices, and two devices for screening suspected luggage, to accommodate the growing number of passengers at Terminal 2. Moreover, the number of internal device operators has tripled, from 4 to 12. The increase in the numbers of devices and operators has leveraged the Terminal’s capacity to handle 7 million passengers.

Bin Sulayem was accompanied by H.E Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, Abdullah Ahmed Al Khaja, Executive Director of Customer Management Division, Buti Abdullah Al Jumairi, Executive Director of Human Resources, Administration and Finance Division, Ahmed bin Lahej, Passengers Operation Department Director, Falah Khalil Al Sammak, Airport Terminal 2 Senior Manager, and Khalil Saqer, Director of Corporate Communication.

The delegation attended a presentation of the operational plan, key performance indicators, achievements statistics, main challenges, and development plans conducted by the department in 2014.

Bin Sulayem as well was presented with a bundle of suggestions and initiatives that shall be launched soon, which aim at supporting the Airport Terminal 2 employees in carrying out their assigned tasks. And it is also to be considered as an added value to Dubai Customs services. These innovative initiatives shall include the smart automated passage of handbags, the smart gates in collaboration with Dubai Airports, and the smart inspector.

At the end of the visit, H.E Sultan bin Sulayem addressed the employees with the importance of retaining the achieved advanced levels for DC represented in all of its Customs Centers, and seeking even further optimal levels. He also called upon employees and directors to invest in harnessing innovation energy.
