Excise makes ‘special teams’ to recover token tax in Gujranwala division

SIALKOT: The Excise and Taxation Department has unearthed as many as 11,000 vehicles lying defaulters in token taxes since long in the Gujranwala division, and special teams have been made to recover that tax.

Excise officials said that these teams have been assigned the task to conduct general holdups at the entry and exit points of the region for four days a week.

They said that the owners of these vehicles were defaulter of Rs 90 million in the wake of token tax, while defaulters were unwilling to pay their outstanding arrears despite the issuance of final recovery notices.

Senior officials of the department said that owners of as many as 3,100 out of 11,000 vehicles have not yet paid their token taxes for the last six consecutive years.

They added that the authorities have cancelled the vacations of officials concerned to recover the outstanding arrears from non-taxpayers.
