TOKYO: Tokyo stocks have opened flat with Wall Street closing mostly lower but the US dollar holding steady against the yen.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo STOCK EXCHANGE
gained 0.02 per cent, or 3.15 points, to 19,479.71 at the start on Friday.
The US dollar remained steady against the yen early on Friday after reversing declines following a dovish statement by the US Federal Reserve on Wednesday.
The greenback was at 120.79 yen early on Friday, compared with 120.80 yen in New York late on Thursday.
The euro bought $US1.0667 and 128.83 yen against $US1.0660 and 128.77 yen in US trade.
US stocks were broadly down on Thursday with oil giants falling sharply on lower OIL PRICES

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.65 per cent while the broad-based S&P 500 shed 0.49 per cent.
The tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index gained 9.55 (0.19 per cent) to 4,992.38, lifting it closer to the psychologically important 5,000 level for only the second time in 15 years.
