HOUSTON: A federal jury in Brownsville found a Houston man guilty of trying to smuggle methamphetamine into the United States.
The jury returned its verdict against Derrick Hargrove, 34 year old following a three-day trial, the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas stated.
Hargrove was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute, conspiracy to import and importation of methamphetamine.
Authorities said that in October 2014 Hargrove tried to cross the Gateway International Bridge into Brownsville from Matamoros. Customs inspectors found two packages inside a suitcase Hargrove was carrying that later were determined to contain methamphetamine, the USAO stated.
Hargrove will be sentenced June 22 before US District Judge Andrew S. Hanen, and faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison plus a fine of up to $10 million.
