SYDNEY: Jaguar has released the teaser images of the upcoming 2nd-generation XF. The new mid-size luxury sedan is set for a global unveil on April 1 at New York auto show.
Prior to its debut at the motor show though, Jaguar will preview the new model at an event in London on March 24.
In the meantime, Jaguar is busy trying to build anticipation around the new XF. The released teasers preview the styling and interior of the upcoming Jaguar sedan. The first of the teaser images gives us a brief top-down look at the new XF’s exterior. From that angle, the new Jaguar XF appears to have borrowed styling elements from its recently launched younger sibling, the XE. The bonnet and side-mirrors have been designed in a similar way, while the sloping roofline and the rakish profile are almost identical to the XE.
Compared to the exterior shot, the second teaser offers a clear and detailed view of the interior of the new model. The fit and finish of the cabin feels more upmarket than before, and there’s a new and larger infotainment screen on the dashboard. This is complemented by Jaguar’s signature rotary gear-knob and revolving air vents. Apparently, there’s a brand new fully digital instrument cluster on the new XF. Also visible are brushed-aluminium bits and hoops at various places, imparting a rich look to the cabin.
Jaguar suggests the new XF is made completely from ground up. The new XF will share its mechanical underpinnings with the recently launched XE sedan. This means it will be based around the firm’s newly devised light-weight aluminium-intensive architecture, and come powered by the JLR group’s latest range of highly efficient 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel ‘Ingenium’ engines. Jaguar is likely to offer the new XF with more powerful, supercharged V6 and V8 engines as well.
According to Jaguar, the XF is the company’s best-selling car since it was launched in 2007. The Jaguar XF is also the most affordable car in the company’s line up as of now. That is, however, about to change in a soon while since the all-new Jaguar XE is all set to go on sale in global markets. The XE is a size smaller than the XF and will primarily compete against the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class. The new XF on the other hand will have BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class in the cross hairs.
