22nd year of celebration: Minister highlights importance of World Water Day

LAHORE: Provincial Irrigation Minister and Punjab Irrigation Department Chairman Mian Yawar Zaman has said that the department is promoting efficient use of water to facilitate farmers with their due share without any difficulty.

Zaman said this while talking Sindh Tass Water Council Chairman Muhammad Salman Khan. The minister said that the World Water Day reminded the people about its importance which had been increasing day by day.

It was very essential that the nation should learn to use water in an efficient manner so that the future generations may not face water scarcity, he added.

He expressed satisfaction that Pakistan was a proud custodian of world’s largest contiguous irrigation infrastructure adding that different schemes were underway for repair and maintenance of this colossal infrastructure.

World Water Day has been observed on 22 March since 1993 when the United Nations General Assembly declared 22 March as “World Day for Water”.
