New FTO Region to be set up at Faisalabad

LAHORE: New Federal Tax Ombudsman Region will be established at Faisalabad within a couple of months to redress genuine grievances of aggrieved taxpayers at their door steps.

FTO sources Thursday said that Federal Tax Ombudsman Abdur Rauf Chaudhary has directed the officials concerned to expedite the process of setting up a new region on top priority basis. After that, aggrieved taxpayers from Faisalabad and Sargodha can file their complaints at Faisalabad region instead of Lahore.

The decision of new region has been taken by the FTO to facilitate the people of the both civil divisions for early redressal of their genuine grievances within a couple of months. The people can even file their complaints related to tax grievances and misconduct of the tax collectors through email, fax, post and in person without acquiring the services of any counsel, sources added.

FTO sources further stated that decisions on the complaints will be taken in two months and appeals only rest with President of Pakistan and are disposed of within three months. After expiry of this period, the decision of the FTO stands restored for compliance.

A total of 8 FTO regional offices at Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad are already working and complaints are being addressed in short time. Registrar, who also holds the dual charge of the post of Advisor (Implementation), Arshed Mehmood Cheema has been directed to fully ensure the compliance of all decisions of the FTO failing which the official may face the wrath of contempt of court by the FTO who enjoys the same powers as the Supreme Court to punish any person for contempt.
