KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Collector Surriya Butt held meeting with officials in order to review the performance of collectorate.
The meeting was attended by the additional collectors, deputy collectors, assistant collectors and other staff of the Collectorate.
During the meeting, the Collector Surriya Butt reviewed the revenue status and recovery condition of collectorate and also asked the authorities concerned to ensure achievement of revenue targets by the end of the third fiscal year-2014-15.
Collector further discussed the issues pertaining to examination and assessment of consignments at Qasim International Containers’ Terminal (QICT) and directed the officials to ensure smooth flow of examination process at terminal and make efforts in order to facilitate the importers and traders during clearance of the consignments.
Surriya Butt further asked the examining staff to ensure examination of the containers at speedy pace, so that the importers could not face any delay from Customs side.
During the meeting, the Collector-MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim made it clear that customs staff should adopt zero-tolerance against criminal activities including mis-declaration and under invoicing to discourage those elements, who involved in unscrupulous activities.
It is pertinent to mention here that the importers and traders were expressed their concerns over the delay in releasing the consignments due to examination process.
They were of the view that more than 50per cent consignments are being examined in a day which ultimately causing delay in clearance and increase in cost of doing business by paying extra amount as demurrage and detention.
